NILRF Annual Conference (previously held as two seperate events, AGM and Open Night) will be held on Wednesday 16 May 2012 at 6pm. Come along to meet our researchers, fellow fundraisers and committee members and see how the valuable funds you raise for us are being used. The aims of MPN&MPNr-EuroNet's fifth workshop are: to share information on the newest developments in MPN and related congenital diseases, congenital erythrocytosis and hereditary thrombocythemia; to exchange and diffuse information on the molecular assays developed for diagnosis or research in laboratories working on MPN and related diseases across Europe. The Hanna Sisters are holding a Charity Concert in aid of NILRF on Saturday 25 February 2012 at the Market Place Theatre, Armagh. Tickets can be bought online at The Market Place, Armagh website


We are organising a 'Come Dine for Leukaemia' evening in Phezulu Restaurant in Bangor on Wed 28 March. Phezulu are a fantastic South African Grill and Bistro and are offering a 3 course meal (including corkage) and we will have fantastic raffle prizes on the evening as well. Ben Sands and Friends are holding a Charity Concert in aid of NILRF on Saturday 14 April 2012 at the Arts Centre, Newry. Admission is £10.


2012 Belfast City Marathon Was one of your New Year Resolutions to complete a marathon, start training more, do something for charity or just to set yourself a challenge? The 2012 Belfast City Marathon is perfect as now is the best time to start training, you can run/walk and raise money for us and what a challenge and achievement it would be! Last year people ran on their own, ran in a relay team, walked the marathon or did the fun run all raising vital funds for Leukaemia Research in Northern Ireland. You can enter here

"A huge thanks to Fearghal O'Connor and his wife Linda for arranging a gate collection at the Fermanagh Vs Clare GAA match on Sunday 12 February at Brewster Park, Enniskillen. They raised a fantastic £1400 which is vital funds we need to carry on our research into Leukaemia. Fearghal was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) in May 2011 and has responded really well to treatment he received at Belfast City Hospital with Prof Mary-Frances McMullin and is now thankfully in remission.


"Niamh Perry (BBC I'd do anything) with members of the cast of “The Little Prince” which premiered at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast recently (1 December – 15 January) supporting NILRF with our wristbands. The Little Prince is a musical written by Nicholas Lloyd Webber (son of Andrew Lloyd-Webber)and James D Reid based on the story by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. You can buy yours here


  • Ryan Warwick from Lisburn decided in 2011 that he would like to raise money for NI Leukaemia Research Fund. So he and his friends decided to the Three Peaks Challenge, covering Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike and Snowdon on 26 June. This was a huge challenge that involved not only physical fitness but alot of planning. A big thank you to Ryan and his friends for organising this and raising money for us!


    John and Patricia Herron held a fundraising party recently in memory of their dear friend Janice Orr, and were delighted to have raised £2710 in lieu of gifts. They would like to say an enormous thanks to everyone for making it a great success.


    The Young Limousin Breeders Club held a Charity BBQ and 'Knockout' Challenge at Lisburn Rugby Club in August. Various breed societies entered teams and the event attracted an excellent turnout of competitors and spectators! The total raised was a fantastic £1500 and Kim Steel Nicolson of YLBNI presented NILRF Secretary Hazel Black with the donation.


    David and Ian Humphreys took time out from their rugby to visit the leukaemia group in the CCRCB to see how the NILRF are supporting invaluable research. Click for more photos.


    Mr William Thompson Dawson, a long time supporter of the NILRF, was recently awarded an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for Services to Leukaemia Research in Northern Ireland. Thompson, who is from Saintfield, has worked away in the background quietly raising funds for the charity for almost 40 years. He has raised a great deal of money, particularly with the Santa Operation, which he organised in many parts of the province including Belfast, Dundonald and Glengormley. Everyone at NILRF would like to congratulate Thompson on this wonderful achievement, and thank him for his ongoing support for the charity.
