Once again this year the annual Bikeathon was held in Ormeau Park and was well attended by children, bikes and thank goodness the weather. Our celebrity at this year's event was the lovely Alexandra Ford, who plays Dympna in the television program 'Give my head peace'. It was a wonderful day and a great deal of fun was had as well as money raised. |

Chartered Accountants Dig Deep for Kids Charities
Ulster’s Chartered Accountants put their hands in their pockets this week to help out local children’s charities. The Ulster Society of Chartered Accountants (USCA) split the £6,000 raised at its Charity Lunch between the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice and the Northern Ireland Leukaemia Research Fund. The event also raised £10,000 worth of toys for the Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul.

“Each year the event gets bigger and bigger, and with our Charity Lunch in Derry now well established we’re able to give more to charities in the North West as well. We’re delighted to be able to present these funds to our nominated charities as we know that they will go towards helping local children.”
Pictured at the cheque presentations are (from left) David Tate, USCA Chairman; Siofra Healy, NI Children’s Hospice; and Frances Parker of the NI Leukaemia Research Fund.
The Ulster Society of Chartered Accountants is a district society of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland, Ireland's largest and oldest professional body of accountants founded in 1888 and with 14,600 members. www.uscai.com |

Colin Ritchie from Newtownards is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, in June 2008 in aid of Leukaemia Research in Northern Ireland (NILRF). Standing at a staggering 6000 metres this will be a truly titanic 12-day challenge for Colin who’s inspiration comes from all those affected by Leukaemia and the quest in finding a cure. The donation of £3500 to date was the result of weeks of fundraising activities by friends and volunteers of the Bangor branch of NILRF who rallied together in memory of Michael Taylor a life time friend of Colin. Michael sadly passed away in 2005 at the age of 23yrs after a long and courageous fight with Leukaemia. He attended Regent House Grammar School and played rugby for the school and his home town of Newtownards.
