Summer studentships

For the second year, the NILRF have decided to fund four summer studentships to enable under-graduates to experience leukaemia research.  This may encourage them to pursue a career in leukaemia research in Northern Ireland.

Terry Lappin - Retirement Symposium

On the 24th May, a small symposium was held to honour the 44 years of research undertaken by Professor Terry Lappin.  The symposium was attended by nearly 100 people.  The talks were given by Professor Finbarr Cotter (London), Professor Henry Halliday (Belfast) and Professor Peter Maxwell (Belfast).

Professor Terry Lappin's presentation was introduced by the Dean of the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Science, Professor Patrick Johnson.

CCRCB Researchers Scoop Top Prizes In
All Ireland Haematology Meeting

Oct 2009

Congratulations to Dr Scott McCloskey and Dr Glenda Dickson who were both awarded prizes at the recent Haematology Association of Ireland Meeting in Kilkenny.

Scott won the prestigious Stewart Medal for his oral presentation on
“Tyrosine kinase inhibitors and bortezomib alter proteasome expression in chronic myeloid leukaemia”.

Glenda’s talk on “Characterisation of HOXA6 in haematopoiesis and Acute Myeloid Leukaemia” was chosen as the best presentation by a Postgraduate Student.

The Haematology Research Group was well represented at this meeting and some of our 1st and 3rd year PhD students were also chosen to give oral presentations.

We would like to congratulate both Scott and Glenda and all the CCRCB researchers who represented Queen’s University Belfast at this meeting.
